Take a global stand against breast cancer

As many of you know – I am fighting breast cancer (again) – this time it is in my liver and bones (which really sucks – but then that is a whole different conversation – at least my treatment is working – yeah). As many of you also know I am on the Board of Directors for the World Conference on Breast Cancer. I am very passionate about this cause because unlike myself, many women experience this disease do not have the support or resources they need.

The World Conference on Breast Cancer brings survivors together with people concerned and working with breast cancer, including: scientists, medical professional, researchers, suppliers, Governments, and many more. The intention is to reach people who can make a difference in the global stand against breast cancer. Through the conference we can educate and equip women from many nations, especially those developing and in transition, with the tools they need to make a difference in their communities.

As part of our social media outreach we decided to create an awareness video on the World Conference on Breast Cancer to launch on YouTube. Well it is launched. The video brings three culturally diverse drummers and women (survivors) and their families together to celebrate the stand against breast cancer.

One million women are diagnosed with breast cancer world wide each year, 400,000 of these women will die. Today four million women are living with breast cancer on our planet. Help to raise awareness about this growing global health issue and share this link with everyone you know. Our hope is to go viral. If we are able to go viral, we may attract advertisers who could help to support the sponsorship of visiting delegates.

Please copy the link and share it with your friends, family and colleagues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF2d7toiadc

Technology Bonds

I gave our oldest daughter my old blackberry and needless to say there was great delight.

Unfortunately that was short lived as she attempted to move the phone over to her phone plans and have my old security profile wiped off. She lost everything (messages, contact list, etc.) and the phone went into total failure.

OH MY! She was in total overload distress. No one could reach her. She couldn't call anyone. No texting for a whole day. She arrived tonight for dinner - totally stressed out and ready to blast someone - anyone - for the phone problems she was having.

The good news - her dad is really tech savvy. He figured out what was wrong and fixed the phone. They spent hours texting, SMSing, pinging, BBing (whatever this language is) each other and selecting ring tones for their various means of connecting. The bonding was amazing.

Dad is a hero. Daughter is happy. I am happy too.

Going to Hamilton

Plans are being finalized for the World Conference on Breast Cancer Board meeting in Hamilton. We will be there to mark the 1 year count down to the conference.

If you don't already picked up the Twitter feed, you might want to, because I am sure my fellow Board member, Melissa, will be tweeting all weekend.

Does this make me cool?

So I guess I really have gained some ‘cool’ factor as I am officially a blogger now (or at least according to my 12 year old). If I start wearing my glasses, my IQ will go up too – hmm.

As you see from my bio I am a breast cancer survivor and have taken my renewed passion for living to a volunteer post with the World Conference on Breast Cancer Foundation as one of 15 board members.

So what can you expect from this blog? You will see my quirky Canadian sense of humour, you will likely get to know my family a little and I will try to reflect what is going on behind the scenes as we plan the 6th World Conference on Breast Cancer (without giving away all of the surprises). Any opinions expressed in this blog are entirely my own and do not necessarily reflect those of the Foundation or the Board (so I will try to behave myself).

Hope you enjoy the blog and I look forward to seeing your comments.
